For the first time in 2023, US pot business registration decreased.

Effective pot business licenses in the United States started to decline for the first time in 2023 after decades of double-digit growth.

A recent report from CRB Monitor, a Nashville, Tennessee-based cannabis knowledge company that tracks and monitors licenses, claims as much.


From 2022 to 2023, active U.S. cannabis firm licenses, including those for the medical and recreational pot areas, decreased by 4 %.

In contrast, during the same time period, the number of active cannabis firm certificates in Canada rose by 2 %.

Since 2019, the total amount of effective licenses in the two nations combined had been almost doubling annually.

But in 2022, when year-over-year growth fell to 28 %, there were indications of a plateau.

In actuality, there were the most effective cannabis licenses in the United States and Canada.
