In the United States, the surroundings of weed legality is evolving, with a vast majority of Americans residing in states where the use of cannabis, for either medical or recreational purposes, is permitted.

A recent study from the Pew Research Center clarifies the state of legalizing pot across the country. According to it, 74 % of the population of the United States resides in states where marijuana use for medical or recreational purposes is permitted, and 54 % of those same states.

A detailed map of the United States showcasing the legality of marijuana, with states differentiated by color for recreational, medical, and restricted low-THC/CBD-only use, including icons for dispensaries, highlighting the widespread acceptance and regulatory landscape of cannabis.

As of February 2024, a total of 24 state, including the District of Columbia, have embraced the recreational use of cannabis since the groundbreaking legislation passed by Colorado and Washington in 2012. Additionally, 14 states have passed laws that allow the use of marijuana for medical purposes, whereas the remaining 12 states have passed laws that restrict access to low-THC or CBD-only pot products.

A Gallup poll found that 70 % of Americans are in favor of legalizing pot, underscoring this pattern.

The findings from the Pew Research Center also provide an analysis of the pot dispensaries ‘ regional supply. A considerable majority of shops, 76 %, are situated in states that legalize recreational marijuana usage. Conversely, 23 % are located in states permitting only medical use of marijuana. The analysis more notes that a tiny fraction, 1 % of dispensaries, operate in states with certain low- THC or CBD- just regulations, with half of these states ‘ populations having access to at least one dispensary.

The development of shops, especially in states that allow outdoor use, can be largely attributed to the 2018 Farm Bill. Using less than 0.3 % THC in hemp, this legislation made it legal, allowing for CBD and other non-intoxicating marijuana substances as well as somewhat intoxicating products like inlet- 8 THC. Some claims have begun regulating or outlaw these products in response to the rising popularity of these products, giving a optimistic view of substances that are classified as lawful white.

In terms of the amount of clinics, California leads the country with 3, 659 organizations, making up a third of the U. S. overall. However, Oklahoma captures focus for its large number of shops per capita, with 36 for every 100, 000 people. One of the almost 15, 000 shops located in a state where nearly 79 % of Americans reside is located there.

The study also highlights the proper selection of dispensaries, especially those situated near position borders, revealing that 20 % of U. S. dispensaries are located within 20 miles of a position border. Interestingly, 29 % of these boundary- opposite clinics are next to states with stricter hemp laws.

The presence of shops, particularly in states where both medical and recreational usage is legalized, impacts local real estate industry. In states like Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, and Virginia, places with a higher concentration of shops tend to have median house earnings$ 20, 000 lower than places with fewer dispensaries. In contrast, states like New Hampshire and New York have median household incomes of$ 20,000 higher than those with fewer dispensaries, such as New Hampshire and New York.

The legality of marijuana and its economic ramifications are subject to significant changes in American society’s perceptions of it, with ongoing debates and legislation shaping how it will be used and distributed in the future.
